David Mathe was born 1982 in Romania.

He studied at the Universität der Künste in Berlin under Prof.Eckart Hübner and at the Academy of Music Gheorghe Dima in Cluj-Napoca under Prof.Bela Barabas.

David Mathe is principal Bassoonist of the Staatskapelle Weimar since 2010. He was principal Bassoonist of the Dortmunder Philharmoniker between 2007-2008 and member of the Transilvania Philharmonic orchestra in Cluj-Napoca between 2001-2007.

He has performed as principal Bassonist with other orchestras as Staatskapelle Dresden, Staatsoper Hamburg, Münchener Kammerorchester, Deutsche Oper Berlin, MDR Radio Philharmonic orchestra in Leipzig, Dresdner Kapellsolisten and Lucerne Festival Strings orchestra.

He enjoyed collaboration with celebrated conductors as Christian Thielemann, Marek Janowski, Kent Nagano, Michael Sanderling, Sir Neville Marriner, Rudolf Buchbinder, Heinz Holliger.

David Mathe is a passionate chamber musician. He is regurarly  perform concerts with chamber musicians including Prof. Martin Spangenberg, Prof.Christian Wetzel, Prof. Johannes Peitz, Prof.Francois Benda, Prof.Wally Hase, Prof.Thorsten Johanns,Prof.Christian-Friedrich Dallmann.

He was recognized as winner of many national competitions in Romania and the winner of ”Wiener Classic Prize” in Semmering, Austria.

David Mathe is teaching since 2017 as a lecturer at the University of Music Franz Liszt , Musikgymnasium Belvedere in Weimar.
